Luton Town player
Dear Luton Borough Council,
I only recently signed as a player for Luton Town at the beginning of the summer. One of the major reasons why I chose Luton is because of these ambitious plans. In fact when I visited the club to discuss my future I was shepherded through an exhibition of the plans round the corner from Kenilworth Road. Upon joining the buzz amongst the players and staff for these plans is immense and when I saw a couple of other players put pen to paper I felt compelled to do the same and share my experience. We don't often write letters but all feel moved to write for this purpose.
I write not only as a Luton footballer but as someone who has seen first-hand how a new stadium can bring a massive boost to a football club and a town as a whole. I was at Rotherham United when the New York Stadium was built. We'd been playing out of town at the Don Valley in Sheffield. As soon as the club moved to the new ground in 2012, it was like the blue touch paper had been lit. We won promotion from League Two in the first season and it seemed as if the ground acted as a catalyst for it because the whole community came together. I'd left the club by the time they won promotion again the following year to the Championship, but the extra finance involved as a result of the progress would have been vital for the well-being of the club and the town.
We all feel that Power Court and Newlands Park will do the same for Luton maybe even one step further as the fan-base here is much bigger. As players we can all see the difference a new stadium can make to the city's ambition and the way outsiders see it. A successful football club always brings a successful city.
Make these developments happen and let the eyes be on us!
