Former Luton Town player
I feel compelled to write in support of my old club Luton Towns planning application for a new stadium.
I was lucky enough to be at Kenilworth Road during some of the clubs glory years, captaining the team to promotion to the top division of English football in 1981-82, and the ground used to regularly rock to the tune of 15-16,000 fans singing their hearts out. I count the 132 appearance I made for the club among the most memorable of my career and Id love to see the Hatters rise again.
Id already helped Brighton & Hove Albion into the top-flight for the first time in their history before joining Luton, and Ive seen what a new ground has done for the Seagulls fortunes in recent years. Brighton are a Premier League club in waiting and Luton will take off in a similar way.
I remember being manager of Huddersfield Town just after they moved into their new stadium in the mid-1990s. Theyd won promotion in the year it was built and we were competing near the top of what is now the Championship and reaching the latter stages of the FA Cup. There was a real feel-good factor around the town at the time because of the football clubs success. I want Luton to have that again.
Its a terrific town that has had its reputation damaged over the years, but from what Ive seen from the stunning images, this new stadium and the development by the M1 will bring kudos back to Luton. Please give a great club a helping hand back up the divisions by passing the plans.
Mr Brian Horton
