Re: Luton Town Stadium - Power Court & Newlands Park Proposed Development - 16/01400 & 16/01401
On behalf of the EFL, we write in support of the proposed developments above which include a new 17,500 capacity stadium for Luton Town Football Club.
As you will no doubt be aware, the club has been at the heart of the Luton community since its formation in 1885. As is the case with all clubs in the EFL, Luton Town makes a significant impact to the local area offering not just entertainment for fans but jobs for residents and a valuable community operation that improves health, inspires education and brings local people closer together through its development projects.
Built in 1905, Kenilworth Road has been Luton Town's iconic home for over a century. However, in the modern era football clubs require their stadiums to be multi-purpose facilities that can be used seven days a week to generate revenue and offer improved services to the local community.
Having seen the plans, the proposed new stadium at Power Court offers Luton Town a very real opportunity to secure a stadium and facilities fit for the 21 st century offering the club a solid foundation to progress on and off the pitch. Not only will the proposed developments put the football club on a sound financial footing, but they will also regenerate an area of the town, create jobs and boost the local economy.
The EFL wholeheartedly supports the proposals and we the cosigned submit this letter for consideration in the formal planning consultation.
