Former Luton Town player and Littlewoods Cup Winner, 1988
To Luton Borough Council,
I started off my professional football playing career with Luton Town after leaving school when I had just turned 16-years-old, and stayed with them until I was 25, so I know what the club means to the local area.
Kenilworth Road is a fantastic ground, I have a lot of fond memories of the place that I will never forget, none more so then our journey to Wembley when we beat Arsenal in the League Cup!
What I do seem to remember of the area around the ground though is it seems to have suffered a bit because of an old stadium sitting right beside it. I thoroughly enjoyed playing there, but its now a very old ground and they were talking about building a new ground when I was started playing for them in the early 80s, so I think it really is time for the Hatters to move on.
A massive part of this would be Newlands Park. I have had a look at the plans on the 2020 Developments website and over the letters on there, and it strikes me as such a fantastic way to get the area to move forward. I now work for Bolton Wanderers, who opened their new Stadium in the late 90s, and you can see how much the area is still seeing the benefit of it now with the hotel and other facilities built in, as well as retail and leisure developments around it.
I think the plans go beyond just a new football ground, even though Power Court does look amazing. It takes into consideration what Luton needs and it is for that reason I fully support these plans.
